Tángara is the species of a beautiful bird that lives mainly in the Andes mountain range in Colombia. This sculpture is in honor of all the birds in extinction. It is conformed by five modules to define body and head, wings, tail and legs.
The Bird is wearing a pair of “slippers” as a symbol of its condition and illness. They act as well as support for survival and the graceful continuation of its journey.
The sculpture is on a curved plane resembling a tree trunk with leaves on which the Bird stands ready to fly way.

In my first works, observation of prehistoric objects such as totems, monoliths and Pre-Columbian pictograms helped me define ideas. Pieces were built on large format with an average size of 1.50 to 2.80 m. using materials such as concrete, welded iron sheets, recycled metal, wood and minerals.

The “Urapan” trees in Colombia are all over big cities. Unfortunately have been chopped down due to the “Dieback” disease. They are like the silent inhabitants of the city of Bogotá.
They move me by their strength, vitality and dramatically, by their fragility.

The work, “IMPERMANENCE” was inspired on “The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying” and is represented by a rectangular wavy flat plane or “Head”. I used concepts as “Bringing The Mind Home” or the practice of meditation and “The Nature of Mind” or its power to lead us in to different states.
The head has a “red rose” on the mouth by each side as a symbol of the power to recover life through the practice of the profound breathing. The thoughtful position of the head sustained with a hand evokes Rodin´s work “The Thinker” to represent the inner gesture of the mind, giving sensations of liberation and relief*

The sculpture is formed by four surfaces or figures resembling exotic birds and flowers such as heliconia, orchid, gloxinia, rose among other species facing extinction.
Colour and a mutual relation between the four figures provide an attitude of fraternity, solidarity, compassion and benevolence reflecting the value of life.
The second figure from left to right carries an elevated feather with a metallic string moved by the wind. The base of the sculpture is indented with a higher surface designed to grow plants integrating the piece in a garden. An irregular lower surface completes the base of the sculpture.
